Nomen geographicum Turus (Theodisce Tauern, hodie saepius Hohe Tauern, pl.) a saeculo 12 attestatum est ut appellativum transituum, nec montis, a saeculis 19 et 20 catenas montium designans:

Ab Aevo antiquo viae super iugera montis inter urbes Iuvavum et Aquileiam et deinde a Medio Aevo transitus Thuri inter urbes alpinas Salisburgum, Rastat et Matereie (Theodisce Matrei) adhibitae sunt. Anno 1143 statio telonei attestata est: vectigal tributum sub Thuro monte. Anno 1198 episcopus Salisburgensis domum viatorum apud viam Transitus Felwii instituit: hospitali in duro monte.
