Arx Carlsteinensis

Arx regia Carlsteinensis, Carlsteina sive Carlstein (Bohemice Karlštejn, Theodisce Karlstein) est arx medii aevi in Bohemia (Cechia) sita, ab imperatore Carolo IV fundata pro conservatione insignium Sacri Romani Imperii.

Historia

Die 10 Iunii 1348 posuit Pragensis archiepiscopus Arnestus fundamentum sive primarium lapidem arcis Carlsteinensis.

Mense Februario anni 1365 consecravit Pragensis archiepiscopus Ioannes Ocellus in magna turri Capellam sanctae Crucis, cuius parietes imperator Carolus IV auro puro et gemmis preciosis circumdedit, ornavit picturis multum preciosis et decoravit illam reliquiis sanctorum, quia in eadem conservabat insignia imperialia et tocius regni sui thesaurum.

Descriptio

Arx habet duae magnae turres. Turris minor Turris Mariana appellatur, altissima turris simplice Turris Magna nominatur. In Magna turri capella sanctae Crucis est, ubi multae praeclarae imagines sanctorum sunt a Magistro Theodorico pictae. In Mariana turri ecclesia B. Virginis Assumptae et capella sanctae Catharinae est. In arce palatium imperiale est. Infimum arcis locum occupat fons, ob suam profunditatem memoratu dignus, quia circa 80 metra profundus est.

Breath taking views. You can get to the castle walking or by horse (150cz per person) basic tour inside the castle every 10 minutes but different by language. To me the only MUST tour.

The place is not so far from Prague. Small town but the castle is really nice! I recommend to take a tour inside! Have a great walk around!

Guided tour is waste of money (270 Kr per person, lasts for an hour). The given information is dense and easily forgotten. But this tour is the only way to get inside the castle and walk the walls.

It’s really lovely place to visit near by Prague. Hop in a train for 30min it’s worth it. It used to be important site during the reign of Charles IV.

Very pretty Castle near Prague. The town is nice as well. Worth visiting the area, not so much the interior of the castle unless you like middle age style

Beautiful place and spectacular views from towers. Free parking under trees, that will save your car from the sun, on the field located next hill, ca 1 km from the castle.
